Summary/Abstract: Contributions Regarding the Portrait of Oprea Ţârcă. This study comprises certain data recording a painting preserved in the collection of Brașov Art Museum, Portrait of Oprea Ţârcă, dating from around 1830-1840. Oprea Ţârcă (1780/ 1787? – 1871), a rich sheperd and merchant from Săcele (a town near Brașov), was an important leader of the Romanians from Bârsa Land. Oprea Ţârcă was the head of the shepherds’ guild of Săcele and participated in the 1848 Revolution. Probably, the anonymous author of the portrait is a foreign artist, traveler trough to Romanian Principalities, who stopped for a while in Brașov. Portrait of Oprea Ţârcă is a representative work for early modern Romanian painting, reflecting the influence of the Biedermeier portraiture.
