Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to reconstruct the formation of the largest Polish organization in the United States of America – the Polish National Alliance. The organization was established in 1880 thanks to the initiative of Agaton Giller, who as a former member of the National Government and an employee of the Polish Museum in Rapperswil in the 1870s and 1880s made efforts to coordinate the activities of groups and associations of Poles living abroad aimed at political work. From the very beginning, the PNA tried to maintain supra-local character, sought to locate its activity on the vast area of the continent, taking into account not only the need to protect the national heritage, but also the real needs of immigrants. To this end, it adopted the form of both a political, cultural and educational institution, and an insurance institution (fraternal organization), adapting to the conditions of economic emigration.
