Summary/Abstract: Early Arabic linguists followed the example of Qur’an commentators who have included mostly the evaluations of qiraahs (the Quranic variants) in their works. As a matter of fact, those were the linguists who have used these variations abundantly as a reference either to provide a basis for a grammatical rule they specified or refute some opposite views in the process of development of the Arabic grammar. In some cases, they considered them exclusively as a fundamental element in this period whereas they utilized them alongside other evidence. From this perspective, we need to emphasize the importance of the viewpoints of linguists about the qıra’ats and the discourse and language they have used through their phrases. In this article, we will examine the point of view about the variants of Quran which is manifested by Zajjaj who was one of the very prominent linguists in his term and had a very remarkable views about Arabic language and the Quranic variants. Firstly, we will present the approaches that was put forward by the Early Arabic linguists in general and then we will discuss the approach of Zajjaj to the qiraahs (The Quranic Variations).
