Summary/Abstract: The subject of the article is a review of the search engine to detect, stop or force a suspicious person. The author draws attention to the dual nature of this procedural process. It is both an evidential measure aimed at achieving the objectives of the preparatory proceedings and a means of coercion interfering in the sphere of human rights and freedoms. The aforementioned procedural institution should be looked at not only by the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure but also by the Constitution of the Republic of Poland and the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
