Summary/Abstract: Enderun School in Ottoman educational system, is one of the early educational institutions. It presents the absolute example of the palace school tradition, seen in earlier Islamic states. With it's over 500 years of history, the primary mission of Enderun School was training high ranking officers/executives. Besides this it served as an art school too. In the studies that made over Enderun School, revealed numerous aspects as human resources of the school, organisation, model of education, context of lectures etc. Yet in this studies, closure of the school stated just as a date. On the other hand, considering the service of the school to empire for a long period and its position in the central government; the phases it passed through and how it was closed would be a good example for Ottoman modernisation process. In this study; formation of the Enderun School within the empire and its position; the phases it passed through after XVIIIth century and it’s closure will be examined.
