Institute of Eastern Slavic Studies at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn – Jubilee Memories

Summary/Abstract: In 2019, the employees of the Institute of Eastern Slavic Studies are celebrating a triple jubilee: as an academic community – the 20th anniversary of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn; as humanities scholars – the 50th anniversary of the Faculty of Humanities; finally, as philologists – the 20th anniversary of the Acta Neophilologica journal. Hence, we are summarizing academic achievements of researchers and teachers who have contributed to the establishment and development of the Institute. These are people who have had to face various problems on their professional path, yet their aim has always been to undertake, organize and popularize scientific research, improving their lectures and classes, promoting Eastern Slavic Studies as well as the university. This close-knit group of staff have contributed to and edited journals, organized conferences, participated in workshops, gaining new qualifications so that students could benefit from their expertise. Unfortunately, as a result of the reform of higher education enforced on the 1st of October 2019, the Institute of Eastern Slavic Studies will cease to exist.
