Summary/Abstract: The study analyses the statut of autotranslation in the case of Panaït Istrati, the Romanian author writing in French. Autotransalation has a special status, the distinction between identity and alterity being solved by the author`s translation. By autotranslation the author wants to cut out any trace of hybridization that the first writing in the foreign language implies. The aim is his recognition as Romanian author by the general public. The strategies of integration in the Romanian literature imply the creation of a discourse corresponding to the spirit and norms of the Romanian language for his characters, but also some changes of omitting the redundant elements for the Romanian readers or adding some identical marks.
