Summary/Abstract: Suffix -ець – one of the oldest suffix, which is known to all Slavic languages, including Ukrainian. The analysis is based on 216 personal names with the suffix -ець selected from three sources, which is a Reverse Dictionary of the Ukrainian language (Odessa 1976), New Dictionary of the Ukrainian language in four volumes (Kyiv 1999), Great Dictionary of Modern Ukrainian (Kyiv 1991-2001). Among the analized names the most is derivatives from nouns, which is a group of 110 words (51 percent). A significant majority of nouns with suffix -ець – mutational type.
