Summary/Abstract: Liberation and occupation: such was the Anglo-American strategy in dealing with enemy territories. In case of Italian Resistance Movement, the agreements made in December 1944 between the Supreme Command of the Allied Forces (AFHQ) and the CLNAI (Comitato di liberazione Alta Italia, the National Liberation Council for North Italy) represented a guarantee that matters would proceed in designated direction. But at that time it was also clear to the Allied Commands that such guarantee did not exist in Julian March. Here, the possibility of Slovene forces taking over the power and their pressing on Italian Resistance threatened the reccurence of "the Greek experience". To avoid such scenario the Allies tried everything to prevent the outbreak of anarchy when Nazism came to ruin. Thus the war ended with "the race for Trieste".
