Summary/Abstract: The director of the Institute for contemporary history presents the historian prof. dr. Tone Ferenc whose work was closely connected with that of the institute. With the exception of a brief period of time, he was employed at the institute since its establishment in June 1959 until his retirement in the beginning of 1997. He held many top administrative positions: he was the principal (1971-1975), first from the ranks of experts when the realisation of concept of research programme expansion began; he was a twice the president of the Institute Council, and finally the chairman of the Administrative Board (1994-1996); he also conducted scientific research and the archives. From 1981 to 1995 he lectured on history of World War II and National Liberation War at the Faculty of Philosophy in Ljubljana.
