Summary/Abstract: The village lies in the southern foothills of the Belasitsa Mountain. At present Goren Poroy is the administrative centre of a several villages of the same type. The refugees waves following the Second Balkan War of 1913, the 1919 Neuilly Convention, and the Mollov-Kafandaris Agreement, have brought some changes in the ethnic composition of the population. Nowadays, for a number of reasons, the people bear Greek names and have a Greek citizenship, which makes it difficult to determine the number of Bulgarians living there. Bulgarian is spoken predominantly by elderly people who, at the same time, make use of the Greek language.
