Summary/Abstract: The authors’ aim is to reconstruct the idea of Central Europe as presented in a renowned book by Ziemowit Szczerek, Przyjdzie Mordor i nas zje, czyli tajna historia Słowian (2013; English: Mordor’s Coming To Eat Us: A Secret History of the Slavs). Szczerek’s idea is reconstructed from a variety of perspectives. Among other things, the authors analyze the tendency to prioritize states and societies within Central Europe, the attempt to locate Central Europe’s borders “somewhere between Poland and Ukraine,” and references to the Habsburg past. Additionally, they focus on the multicultural region of Transcarpathia, and on demarcating Central Europe’s eastern border by means of the emotions experienced while travelling.
