Julius Caesar as the flamen Dialis – an alternative way of the patrician’s career?

Summary/Abstract: In my paper I examine the case of Julius Caesar who was appointed as the flamen Dialis in 84 BC. I emphasize not so much the attempt to determine whether Caesar was in fact a flamen but rather reflect on the role which this priestly office could have had on the career of patrician. I belive that the position of flamen Dialis with the claim of being a part of the Senate was tempting and so this office could have been quite important for patricians especially from the minor gentes.W niniejszym artykule opisuję przypadek Juliusza Cezara, który w 84 rokup.n.e. został wybrany kapłanem Jowisza. Skupiam się nie tyle na zagadnieniu pełnieniaprzez Cezara tej funkcji kapłańskiej, co na próbie odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy stanowiskoflamen Dialis mogło mieć wpływ na karierę patrycjusza. Uważam, że pomimo wielu ograniczeń o charakterze rytualnym objęcie tej godności, z którą wiązało się miejsce w senacie, mogło być alternatywnym sposobem kariery dla patrycjusza, zwłaszcza pochodzącegoz gentes minores.
