Summary/Abstract: The author of the review discusses the thesis presented in Philippe Cabestan’s book L’être et la conscience. Recherches sur la psychologie et l’ontophénoménologie sartriennes. The work of the French philosopher can be regarded as an analysis and elaboration of the early philosophical assumptions of Jean-Paul Sartre oscillating around the concept of conscious- ness. Cabestan shows how Sartre’s critical approach to phenomenology influenced the shape of his ontology, presented primarily in the book Being and Nothingness.
