Summary/Abstract: This study analyses the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) as a permanent institution backed by the European Central Bank (ECB) that has played a key role in the economic sustainability and financial stability of Greece following its debt crisis. Established on the basis of mutual support between EU member states in solving crisis problems, it has become an institution of high importance for the evolution of the European Economic and Monetary Union.
