Summary/Abstract: There are probably few outsiders and professionals who regard museums as an important tool in city branding. Yet thedevelopment and management of collections not only refl ects the accumulated knowlegde of a particular community, but alsobears the mark of social and political pursuits. In the spirit of the cultural strategy of Oradea’s local government, the projectto establish a city museum, initiated in 2016, poses a series of serious questions regarding collections management as well ascommunication: What principles is the thesaurization of the city’s values based on? What are the guidelines for collectionsmanagement? What is the defi ning discourse of the politics of memory in urban population? How does the city museum relateto processing the past and the city’s “brand experience”, and how does Oradea City Museum come to represent a position ofpower? In my study, I will assess the question of the interpretation of cultural and political identity in a museum, in the contextof the Oradea local government’s city branding processes
