Summary/Abstract: Sense-making is defined as the process by which individuals interpret the events occurring at the level of the subconscious and consciousness and understand what is happening. Although there are many different types of researches in the literature related to sense-making; it is realized that there is not any sense-making measurement tool in the literature and there is a gap that should be filled. The main aim of this study and its contribution to the existing literature is to create an original scale. At the stage of development of the scale, firstly, the related literature was reiterated and based on the information given by Smerek (2009), it was tried to form an item pool by using a 5-point Likert type scaling with 22 items. The surveys were sent to 207 academicians by means of easy sampling method and 104 valid data were collected. Cronbach’s Alpha value, which indicates the reliability of the scale, was found to be high reliability (0.897) and five factors explained the variability of the scale with 66.186% variance. The first contribution of the research to the existing literature is; it is the first scale about sense-making. The second contribution of the research is; sense-making of discourse, action, facts and events as a sign can allow for the estimation and prevention of bad events, such as errors, accidents, chaos, crises which may be in the future by reducing uncertainties. This scale can be useful especially in the fields of behavioral sciences, organizational behavior, management and organization; in addition, it is considered that it can provide benefits in the field of political science and military as well as psychology and communication sciences which are closely related to behavioral sciences.
