Summary/Abstract: Fixing the image from past to present has always attracted the interest of mankind. The camera was discovered as a result of intense work in this direction. In the first years of its discovery, Photography aimed to transfer only the truth to the image, as a result of this, it set up its dynamics on painting. It is soon recognized by artists that photography is not only a transfer of reality to the surface, but also needs to create its own practices. Following this, the artistic adventure of photography until today’s art begins. On the other hand, the photograph can reach to a large number of people quickly, in comparison with the other works of art, and it can be easily handled and used and reproduced as desired. In this way, photography becomes at the center of the artistic production environments aimed at criticizing political, cultural and social life that are revived behind periods of social crisis. Today, photography technology is one of the most frequently used tools in contemporary art thanks to the rapid progress it has made. With this development of digital technologies, this momentum has increased. In this research, it is tried to focus on the dada and surrealism movements which are the important developments during the journey from the discovery of photography to the present, the expectations of modernism from the art of photography and the position of photography in contemporary art practices.
