Summary/Abstract: The effect of the evolution of development policy is, among others, its synchronization with spatial policy. In the post-comunist bloc countries, such a policy – interpreted as a spatial development policy – has replaced many years of development policy, especially the development of territorial systems. Progress of decentralization promoting self-government entities of power, promoted the policy of development of territorial systems to one of the main instruments of the country’s development policy. The article presents the problem of spatial aspects of regional development, recalling classical location theories and considering their potential in the perspective of the needs of modern development policy.
