Summary/Abstract: On the basis of archive material and personal memories obtained in the field, the author reviews the life and work of the miners from the Mežica lead mine. Mining was the main economic activity in the upper Mežiška dolina valley in Carinthia, providing employment to some 70 percent of its population and having a direct and indirect influence on the region's development rate. The mining production and the miners and their working hours, health care, hygiene, insurance and salaries are presented.
