Summary/Abstract: This article is an attempt to answer the question about the future of humanities studies and to find a good model of their development in the context of recent discussions in Poland. The author analyzes three main visions of the university – the Humboldtian model of higher education, the entrepreneurial university model, and the university as a place for the education of the elites, which are the basis underlying the narratives developed by Polish academicians, who place the humanities in opposition to the natural sciences and criticize practicality as the main ideological pillar of the university. The author presents the thesis that today, a different model needs to be sought for the humanities, and that a vision of practical humanities needs to be promoted – one with identical assumptions and implementation as in the natural sciences. A solution to the dilemma of which vision to accept may be the entrepreneurial university, often confused with the actually pathological form of an enterprise-university.
