Summary/Abstract: In the following discussion the author presents the views of the Theory of Evolution and the Pope's encyclical Quanta Cura in the period when the Slovenian cultural and political structure was being established. Both of these events represent an important turning point - the former for the development of inter-disciplinary research of the origin and development of species, and the latter for the influence of the Church on culture or science. Namely, the aforementioned encyclical represents the beginning of the Neothomist philosophy. Here we should emphasise that Darwin's theory had not significantly influenced the formulation of the Pope's encyclical.
