Summary/Abstract: The main thread of the contribution is a reflection on identity, which is supported by empirical data from the history of Canadian Slovenians. The article refers especially to the self-identification of Canadian Slovenians as Slovenians, the continuous construction of which is readily observable through a temporal perspective. The examination of this selfi-dentification does not stop at the declarative level, but also touches upon symbolic aspects such as language and other elements of material and non-material culture. Research materials are taken from archival and partly also newspaper sources available in Slovenia, relevant scientific literature, and interviews with Canadian Slovenians and their descendants in Canada.
