Summary/Abstract: RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the article is a presentation of research results and an attempt to answer a question whether free and open software and hacker ethics can be the basis of education. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: Research issues presented in this article apply to the possibility of use free and open source software to implement the didactic process. Particular attention has been paid to practicality of the used tools and activation of students’ entrepreneurship. In research participant method was used, as a base for case study. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The paper is divided into four parts. The first one describes information about hacker ethics and their sources. The second part presents issues connected with free and open source software and the possibilities of using them to activate entrepreneurship. In the next part author presents issues related to entrepreneurship and the ways of considering them. The last part of the article presents results of the research. RESEARCH RESULTS: The analysis of the research indicates the possibility of using free and open software in educational processes. Thus, it’s possible to use this software to stimulate entrepreneurial behavior. The empirical study shows that students are strongly motivated to use free and open source software (81% of the respondents). The author used this study as a basis for further activities in this area. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The development of entrepreneurial skills should be recognized as critical element for creating modern education. The article analyzes the main directions and areas in the use of free and open software. Detailed research should cover various groups of students, in different fields of study.
