Summary/Abstract: RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The aim of the article is the theoretical presentation of selected aspects related to the management of the human team as the basic competence of potential entrepreneurs. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The authors adopted the assumption that the development of competences in the field of managing a human team enables the establishment of a company and its development. Empirical research was conducted using a quantitative method in the form of an auditorial interview conducted among students of fields of study related to two private universities in Poznań. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The theoretical part of the article presents the impact of managerial competences in the field of managing the human team on the possibility of creating new and developing existing small and medium-sized enterprises. In the research layer, an attempt was made to determine the knowledge and skills of potential entrepreneurs in the area of building and managing a team of employees and to specify their professional plans, including the will to set up their own enterprise. RESEARCH RESULTS: Analysis of the results of empirical research indicates that respondents assess their knowledge and skills regarding business management quite highly. A large group of students surveyed plans to start their own company in the future or to work as a manager in another company. However, only 29% said they had sufficient knowledge to run the business independently. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The results of the conducted research may contribute to the planning of the education areas of future entrepreneurs defining gaps in the field of education in the field of team management and entrepreneurship.
