Summary/Abstract: The spring of 1943 in Southwestern Macedonia saw the outbreak of the Kostour Uprising led by a Bulgarian-Macedonian revolutionary committee. IMRO offered an active support of the Uprsing, both in a moral and material aspect. The so-called "Guardians" consisted of volunteers who defended with their arms the population and provided for its nourishment.
