Summary/Abstract: The presented article discusses the history of physical education association called Orel in Moraviabefore the WWI. The beginnings of the Orel movement are dated the beginning of the 20th century,when the first catholic physical education department in Líšeň u Brna and Zlín were founded. Orel departmentsor unions and their exercises, courses or public performances began to spread widely after1909, when from separate departments were connected to an organization having its own costumeand the name Orel. The leader of this organization was Jan Šrámek. To another development of Orelorganization in Moravia contributed three country festivals organized by him, which lead to anotherincrease of number of members. Nevertheless, the promising development of Orel in Moravia wasstopped by WWI.
