Summary/Abstract: Introduction: International accreditation has been a topic of discussion among accrediting agencies, providers of healthcare and professional organizations. A borderless world in higher education provides mobility of students and faculty to enhance scientific research and to enhance post graduate and doctoral education. Within this larger global context, there is an opportunity for existing accrediting organizations to provide additional program specific accreditation in order to develop healthcare leaders and enhance quality of care. Countries in all regions of the world are concerned with leadership, governance, quality of care, the patient experience and access to care. Accreditation provides assurances of quality for various public and key stakeholders. Methods: With funding through the ARAMARK Charitable Fund, two research studies (Phase I and Phase II) were authorized by CAHME to gather specific information and answer important questions impacting graduate health management education. The Phase I study was conducted in 2011 and was structured to examine the supply and demand for professionally trained healthcare administration in sixteen countries; provide a summary of health systems; assess the extent of international healthcare management areas involving global centers, research, courses, study abroad and partnerships. Survey research was used to look at models of accreditation in Mexico and Central and Eastern European countries.
