Summary/Abstract: At the Ninth International Congress of the P. E. N. in Holland, Dr. Milan Curcin proposed that John Galsworthy should remain President of the international committee sine die. His proposal receiveld the backing of the whole congress, but was resisted by Mr. Galsworthy himself. In my report of the proceedings I find these words: »Finally, Mr. Galsworthy consented to be President for the coming year, leaving the future to take care of itself«. That was in 1931. Galsworthy continued in 'Office till the day of his death, and we who have worked with him since the inception of the P. E. N. in 1921 are wondering how the future will take care of itself.
