Summary/Abstract: In the 1990s and the beginning of the 21st century the world became an arena of great political and socio-economic changes. The ongoing globalisation processes and technological revolution were accompanied by unprecedented economic growth, which however came to an end with the onset of the current financial crisis, which has recently transformed into a debt crisis. The aim of the article is to present possible scenarios for the globalising world in turbulent times. A short overview of basic theories of international relations followed by a comparative analysis of the Great Depression and the current financial crisis shall enable the reader to understand the course of possible future events.
