Summary/Abstract: As lyrical forms of modern popular literature, pop songs evidence the vitality of the sentimental convention. They engage listeners in interesting games or combine literary traditions. It is mostly poetic authorial songs that invoke sentimental themes and motives, even though such songs rarely employ literary allusions. The references to the sentimental tradition are usually elegiac or, by contrast, satirical. Whatever the case, pop songs, on the whole, evoke the long lost state of innocence and naivete.
