Summary/Abstract: One of the phenomena prevalent in modern Polish literature is the presence of references to popular music. The musicality of literature, whether in the sentimental layer or the structure and composition of the text does not only serve to add voicing to the text, but also builds semantic context and helps in interpretation. This is particularly visible in prose referring to the times of the Polish People’s Republic, which in its memory narration takes on sentimental meanings. The introduction of a song into the depicted world not only builds the aura of the times in question, but also allows to present most of the sentimental mechanisms, such as subjectivism, emotionalism, morality, the turn towards the past and an alternative for civilization. Such meaning of musical references may be found in the novels of Jerzy Sosnowski.
