Summary/Abstract: In the 20-s of the XX century Russia was left forcedly by several million people. Many emigrants began to live in Paris, Belgrade, Berlin, Warsaw, Constantinople, Harbin and other cities. The Russian schools, the universities, the museums were created everywhere. The special role in maintaining historical memory belongs to the military and historical museums. From the 18th century their many relics were stored in the regimental museums: banners, flags, awards, portraits, books, schemes, posters, personal belongings, rare souvenirs, etc. Some museum collections returned to modern Russia. With gratitude we remember selfless activity of the Russian officers — founders of the museums in the Russian abroad, for example Nestor Aleksandrovich Monastyrev. His followers in the different countries do a lot of things for maintaining historical memory. The World congresses of the compatriots living abroad which are carried out in Russia became confirmation of it. The next congress took place in November, 2018. In this article some materials telling about the domestic museums behind a boundary since the end of the 19th century are introduced into expanded scientific circulation. It is emphasized how the memory of those who founded the domestic museums far from the homeland is significant for today.
