Mechanisms of coping, awareness and forgiveness of persons deprived of their liberty

Summary/Abstract: Specialitly literature remains unclear about the role of forgiveness and awareness in the context of the penitentiary environment. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the role of cognitive-emotional coping mechanisms on the level of aggression of the individuals deprived of their liberty and on the duration of their conviction, and the role of emotion awareness in the process of forgiveness. The SPSS statistical program was used for data processing. The results indicate that people with a higher level of emotional awareness have a better ability to forgive (r = 0.40) indicating that 16% of the variation of the forgiveness process is due to the level of emotional awareness. There were also statistically significant correlations and some coping mechanisms.
