Summary/Abstract: The post-war reconstruction of Kosovo was a demanding task. The support of the United States in this context was of paramount importance for Kosovo's necessity to rise from the ashes of war, and for the beginning of consolidation of democracy in Kosovo. This paper reflects the US contribution in the period of years 1999-2004, on the topics of: conclusion of war in Kosovo; return of refugees; military support; American role in co-government and international protectorate in Kosovo; establishment of local governing political institutions; humanitarian aid; reconstruction; security and stability; social issues, and Kosovo's sustainable economic development. US foreign policy of the new Bush Presidency is analysed thoroughly, including the unfolding of US Congress resolutions on the Kosovo issue, as well as the American official stance on Kosovo's political status.
