Summary/Abstract: From 1842 to 1860 the literary almanac Libussa was published in Prague, and according to the editor Paul Aloys Klar was explicitly dedicated to cultural education. Thereby it was also committed to promoting cultural and political equality between the nations in the Bohemian lands. In the tradition of such “unifying” publications, Libussa was an expression of a complex yet consolidating bilingual media landscape, yet it survived the political rupture of 1848/49 unscathed. Although based on patriotic principles, transcultural approaches can nonetheless be found, but these remain, in general, marginal compared to the dominant nationalist linguistic and cultural discourses. “Apolitical” or cosmopolitan positions, as represented in Libussa, remained ultimately ineffective
