GERMAN LOANWORDS IN THE CROATIAN MUSIC TERMINOLOGY AND JARGON

Summary/Abstract: Existence of German loanwords in the Croatian music terminology and jargon is a result of complex process influenced by different factors. Some of them are shortly described in this article, but special attention is paid to observing characteristics of those German terms as well as way and degree of their adjustment into Croatian language. Corpus of three hundred lexical units, borrowed from German through several phases of collecting and control, was created for the needs of analysis. Basic structure, created in that way, served for researching different relations, functions and constructions that German loanwords have in the Croatian music terminology and jargon, what enables better and clearer understanding of complex interaction between German and Croatian language. If we take into consideration that complexity, meaning of certain German and Croatian words can be adjusted more easily, it is possible to better determine their similarities and differences and if it is necessary find more adequate Croatian synonyms.
