Summary/Abstract: The goal of the paper is to study the records of nazi concentration camps in order to trace the recollections about the Lagerdolmetscher, or camp interpreters. Based on major concepts elaborated by Bourdieu such as field, capital, habitus, practice, we examine the following issues: why were interpreters needed, who were they, how were they recruited, what were their language combinations, their duties and their roles.
