Summary/Abstract: The paper analyses the novel After Dark written by the prolific Japanese writer Haruki Murakami through the critical concept of postmodernism and its impact on the social sphere of the land of the rising sun. It is interesting to follow how the author weaves the fate of an isolated urban population of the Japanese capital, from a quiet and fluent story to his remarkable, unexpected twists. Features that connect all the characters in the novel are alienation, confusion, hope and yearning for freedom. The novel lasts only one night and it resembles a film noir, directed by Murakami.
