Summary/Abstract: A central theme of political anthropology is knowledge and power. In this article the previously so far unresolved issue of the relation of power and knowledge in Karl Immermannʼs Merlin (1832) is interpreted, whereby power is viewed as an eternal adversarial dramatic structure. In this comparative research is the existence of similarities and differences between the relationship of knowledge and power in Immermann’s Merlin, Niccolò Machiavelliʼs political writings and the same problems in medieval chivalric romance to be analysed.
