Summary/Abstract: The following paper examines the potential of theater pedagogy for selfeducation and aesthetic education in present educational conjuncture, based on an analysis of the role of the theater play in educational institutions in the last five centuries. Hentschel’s categories of the “intermediate” and “differential experience” are investigated, regarding how aesthetic experiences can be achieved through theater play. Hentschel’s approach is based on the use of theater-pedagogical methods for teaching as well as the introduction of theater pedagogy as an independent subject. Finally, the paper proposes methods for a professionalisation in theatre pedagogy.
