Summary/Abstract: The role of women in history is one of the more interesting themes of contemporary historians. The position of women in the past is still different in many things today. The story was written by men, and it seems that most of the story was made up of men. Women, of course, existed, but they were not present in various so-called. “Male things,” that is, public life. It was inconceivable for a woman to do anything else than to be looking for, poking and keeping children safe. Luckily, this has changed so far. This paper deals with the role, status and place of women in the 19th and early 20th centuries in Montenegro. We see numerous examples of how strangers look at different aspects of Montenegrin women's lives.
