Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the correlation between the literary and scientific discourse in the contemporary postmodern novel. As an example of distinct, almost radical interference of the literary and the scientific, both in national and global terms, the author is reviewing the novelistic work of a contemporary Croatian writer and scientist, Jasna Horvat. Through the examination of four novels by said author – Az (2009), Bizarij (2009), Auron (2011) and Vilikon (2012) – individual discourse levels where scientific elements are situated in a novelistic text are analyzed and its functions are identified. Furthermore, a wide range of interventions into the referential field of particular scientific disciplines covering the area of many currently legitimate scientific domains and corresponding sciences – starting from mathematics, chemistry, biology, historiography, philology, art sciences to philosophy, psychology, sociology, ethnography and folklore study - is considered. Through differently pointed interdisciplinary and intermedia strategies, the four conceptual novels by the author Horvat are affirmed as complex literary and scientific hypertexts, untypical novel-projects, with peculiar cybernetic codes of their organization and internal functioning. As such, they represent a phenomenon which is a staple in deliberating on the contemporary novel of the post-material Internet age and its hypothetical future.
