Preferences of Farmers from the Lublin Region in the Demand for Advisory Services

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study was to analyze and assess preferences in the demand foradvisory services of farmers from the Lublin region. The results were obtained througha questionnaire interview including 28 questions, which was carried out from March toMay 2016 among 200 farmers. It was showed that among the motives for using advisoryinstitutions, respondents indicated a willingness to obtain EU financial support (31.5%)and to complete forms for this support (28.0%), to increase the level of skills and knowledge(16.0%) and to acquire new markets (9.0%). The reasons for choosing an advisory institutionwere significantly dependent on the gender of the respondents. For women, they wereprimarily the cost of services (25.0%), friends’ reviews (23.7%), and their own experience(22.4%), whereas the reputation of the advisory center (9.9%) was the least important. Menlargely trusted in their own experience (31.4%) and appreciated the comprehensivenessof advisory services (21.6%). The costs of services (12.7%) and market reputation (15.7%)were significantly less important for them. Statistical analysis showed that the choiceof the advisory center was significantly determined by the age of the respondents, whereasin each age group the Agriculture Advisory Center proved to be the leader in advisorysupport. Respondents declared greater interest of advisory services provided by the Chamberof Agriculture and private institutions in future.
