Summary/Abstract: Taking the notion of lacuna as a starting point, which represents an interesting but under-researched linguistic phenomenon in terms of different languages, the possibilities of classification of lacunae from the perspective of the Russian and Serbian languages present an inevitable step in the scientific treatment of the matter, especially when similar languages are concerned. In the beginning, the existing classifications are discussed, and then possible classifications are presented, which are the result of the authors' own research not only at the lexical level, but also at the morphological, syntactic, semantic, paremiologic, and word formation level respectively. Furthermore, the structure of lacuna is also taken into consideration, as well as inter-cultural communication, along with possible criteria for their classification. Thus, by virtue of contrastive analysis, the paper presents a review of possible classifications of lacunae, which represents a scientific contribution in researching this phenomenon from the perspective of the aforementioned languages.
