Summary/Abstract: In the paper the author discussed a number of qualities characterising the studies of masculinity in Polish literary studies, stressing, among others, the recently observable references to the “rectal turn”. The second part of the paper comprises the analysis of Michał Witkowski's novels, Lubiewo and Wymazane. The author points to the appreciation of old age, present in both works, which is interpreted as a signal of specific retrotopian quality. The vision of masculinity as threatened with disintegration resulting from such a juxtaposition is connected with the model of male gender as proposed in the “rectal turn” and signalises a specific retrotopian nature of both Witkowski's works as well as literary masculinity studies.
