Archaic Elements in Romanian Proverbs

Summary/Abstract: In this thesis titled Archaic Elements in Romanian Proverbs I tried to analyse problems connected with the distinction between the common lexic and the specialized lexic, as it appears in Angela Bidu-Vrănceanu’ S book noticing the implications the lexic has in the Romanian proverb. In the introduction I noted down a series of definitions of the term proverb from a logic-semiotical or linguistic, stylistic, ethnological point of view, on the basic of the observations made by the authorities in these domains: Mihai Pop, Pavel Ruxandoiu, Eugeniu Coșeriu, Cezar Tabarcea, Constantin Negreanu etc. In the body of the thesis I observed a series of particularizations of the proverb. Under a lexical aspect, I analysed the lexical archaisms identified in the Romanian proverb on the basis of some lexicographical studies, and the modality they determine the formal structure of the proverb and also its message. At the same time I have drawn the conclusion that archaisms, both in the free discourse and in the repeated discourse, represent a modality of preserving the language and of resuming the linguistic evolution. The proverbs analyzed are recorded in the ten volume collection of Iuliu A. Zanne, for which I used the script in which the proverbs are picked by the author.
