Summary/Abstract: During the official election campaign preceding the parliamentary elections in 2017 the issue with the Bulgarian expats in Turkey was exploited for political purposes, especially in the period 20-24 March (the weekdays before the elections were held). Nationalist protests against the Bulgarian expats in Turkey took place near the Bulgarian-Turkish border. The purpose of research is to confirm or deny the hypothesis that the term “Turk/expat" is more often present in the Bulgarian media during the election campaign than the term "refugee/ migrant". The objects of the research are the three of the most widely read Bulgarian online media in 2016, according to data of the “Gemius”online traffic platform. The survey was conducted from 20 March 2017 to 24 March 2017. The hypothesis that the term "Turk/expat" is more frequent than the term "refugee/migrant" between the March 20th and the March 24th was confirmed at one of the three most often read Bulgarian online media.
