Summary/Abstract: The language is an indispensable part and instrument in the work of the media. Through it they recreate and tell facts of reality. In the process of the narrative, the use of language, either intentionally or unintentionally, often uses elements of fiction, making up the story, refining the facts in order to make the media story more engaging. The participants in the story often turn into media heroes. In this article, I investigate how the language that is used in the media in order to tell the facts turn them into fiction and thus creates media heroes. As a theoretical framework, I address the theories of fiction and language of Jeremy Bentham, Jean-Paul Sartre and Michel de Certeau. I choose them because of their common views on the language and its ability to change the reality in the narrative process, and thus to create a second, fictional reality. In the article, I examine examples of real-life individuals who, after their presentation in the media, turn into media heroes. These are representatives of the criminal world and the mafia in Bulgaria after 1990.
