Summary/Abstract: The purpose of my study is that of exploring whether the online piracy of music, movies and books should be regarded, from a moral and legal standpoint, as a victimless crime. First and foremost I will begin by presenting the general context of the debate, highlighting the relevance of the subject in the contemporary world. The next sections of the paper will focus on exploring the notions of victimless crimes and online piracy (or file sharing) as opposed to traditional forms of music or movie piracy. The bulk of my study will revolve around arguing that online file sharing is not harmful towards artists or the creative industry. Last but not least, my paper will conclude with a normative proposal: if online piracy is a victimless crime, then we should actively pursue its decriminalization.
